PERSON-CENTERED/ROGERIAN THERAPY

Person-Centered Therapy

Person-Centered Therapy, also known as Rogerian Therapy, is a humanistic approach developed by psychologist Carl Rogers. This approach is built on the belief that every person has an innate capacity for growth, healing, and self-understanding when provided with the right conditions.

Rather than positioning the therapist as the expert who has the answers, Person-Centered Therapy views the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative partnership. The therapist provides a supportive environment characterized by empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, allowing clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences without fear of judgment.

A central principle of Person-Centered Therapy is that meaningful change occurs when people feel genuinely seen, understood, and accepted. As clients develop greater self-awareness and self-acceptance, they are often able to reconnect with their values, trust their inner experiences, and make choices that align with who they truly are.

At our practice, person-centered principles are woven throughout our work, regardless of the specific therapeutic approach being used. We believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. Whether we are utilizing CBT, DBT, EMDR, attachment-focused therapy, or other evidence-based interventions, we strive to create a space where clients feel respected, understood, and empowered.

Person-Centered Therapy is particularly helpful for individuals seeking greater self-understanding, personal growth, improved self-esteem, or support navigating life's challenges. Rather than focusing on fixing what is wrong, this approach helps individuals recognize their strengths, deepen self-compassion, and move toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.

At its heart, Person-Centered Therapy is founded on a simple but powerful belief: when people are met with empathy, acceptance, and genuine connection, they naturally move toward growth and healing.
